Senior IT Project Director

An exceptional opportunity exists for a Senior IT Project Director to lead and manage the execution of complex IT projects from initiation through delivery. This key role is accountable for overseeing project portfolio governance, enforcing project management frameworks, and driving continuous improvements within the IT project management office.

This position requires a highly skilled and experienced IT project management professional with a strong background in agile methodologies, including Scrum and SAFe. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

The selected individual will be responsible for:

  • Accountable for IT portfolio processes including planning, portfolio governance, project methodology framework, and resource capacity management.
  • Ensure project management standards and practices are implemented across the IT project portfolio.
  • Supervise and mentor the project management team, providing performance reviews, career growth opportunities, and training.
  • Create and maintain staffing plans for internal and external resources, recommending long-term contractors or full-time additions.
  • Analyse project proposals to determine timelines, funding, and required processes.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project teams through all project phases.
  • Implement effective project communication, including steering committee meetings and status reports.
  • Manage project risks and issues, implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Align project goals with business objectives and manage delivery on time and within budget.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience in project management of complex IT projects.
  • Deep understanding of agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Disciplined Agile, etc.).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Background in Business Analysis.
  • Proven experience managing an IT Portfolio or PMO.
  • Prior team leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing external vendors and contract staff.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and meet goals, define schedules, allocate resources, and implement processes.
  • Strong ability to navigate ambiguity and bring clarity to teams.
  • Experience in software product development life cycles is mandatory.
  • Experience in the banking or financial services domain is required.
