We are seeking an experienced Database Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our data management group, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable database systems.
- Design and implement scalable Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ configurations, including replication for homogeneous/heterogeneous environments.
- Automate patch deployments, installations, and routine tasks using shell scripting or other programming languages.
- Optimize data storage, retrieval, indexing, query performance, and infrastructure to ensure high efficiency.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with application developers and system administrators to enhance database operations and interactions.
- Design and implement disaster recovery/resiliency strategies, cloud-based Sybase solutions, and technology evolution initiatives.
- Manage database migrations (e.g., Sybase ASE to MSSQL/PostgreSQL) and upgrades.
- Monitor performance, troubleshoot data corruption, long-running queries, blockings, and deadlocks using tools like Performance Monitor.
- Handle account management, security/audit parameters, and periodical backups/recovery.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 2-12 years of experience with Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ architecture, configuration, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in SQL/T-SQL, index defragmentation, re-indexing, query optimization, and client/server connectivity.
- Strong experience in automating routine tasks, replication monitoring, and backup/recovery scheduling.
- Knowledge of Azure/AWS integration, shell scripting, and ITIL framework (incident/crisis management).
- Excellent problem-solving, team collaboration, and presentation skills (PPT, Excel with macros).
- Ability to work independently in a 24x7 rotational shift environment with a positive attitude.
