Mortgage loans require thorough review, conditions, and underwriting in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Conventional Underwriter examines all documentation for accuracy and completeness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure eligibility, accuracy, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines
  • Examine all required loan data, reports, and inspections to verify collateral is acceptable to investors and the company
  • Determine creditworthiness, income levels, cash flow, and risk assessment factors
  • Calculate asset requirements for closing and reserve purposes
  • Make independent decisions regarding loan acceptance and risk based on HUD, company, and investor guidelines

Furthermore, you will be responsible for:

  • Completing paperwork and forms accurately and timely
  • Signing off conditions set by management
  • Collaborating with staff and management to resolve escalated loans
  • Making recommendations for improving internal audit policies and practices
  • Utilizing Encompass functions to manage loans effectively

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in conventional/govt end-to-end underwriting
  • Familiarity with the 4Cs framework (Asset, Income, Credit, Collateral)

The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical skills, strong communication abilities, and a high level of customer service orientation.
