Medical Coding Specialist Job Description:
The Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for accurately assigning codes to medical procedures and diagnoses in a same-day surgery setting, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze patient records, operative reports, and other documentation to ensure accurate coding of procedures and diagnoses.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to clarify documentation when necessary.
- Stay updated on changes in coding standards and best practices.
- Provide education and support regarding proper documentation practices and coding requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in health information management or related field preferred.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or similar credential is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same-day surgery coding preferred.
