U.K Mortgage Underwriter Role

Job Title: U.K. Mortgage Underwriter.


We are seeking a skilled professional with expertise in mortgage underwriting, focusing on the 4 C's (Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital). The ideal candidate will have experience in risk assessment, income calculations, and property evaluation, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards.


Mission

Our mission is to deliver a seamless service to clients by taking ownership of mortgage applications from initial submission through to offer. This requires reviewing and screening residential owner-occupied and buy-to-let mortgage applications to understand the customer and application type, ensuring the correct packaging requirements are set.


Responsibilities

  • Taking ownership of mortgage applications, from initial submission through to offer.
  • Reviewing and screening residential owner-occupied and buy-to-let mortgage applications.
  • Applying a future-thinking, holistic approach by anticipating the need of the underwriter.
  • Understanding and assessing the risk of the application.
  • Using and interpreting lending policy to ensure the case meets the packaging guidelines.
  • Being responsible for the quality of data, identifying and correcting inaccuracies, including customer personal data, property portfolio, and income and commitments.
  • Working to agreed deadlines, meeting and exceeding set SLAs at each touchpoint.
  • Managing all mortgage documents and supporting information, assessing and validating documents, ensuring they meet relevant policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Evaluating income evidence, credit reference reports, EPC reports, Companies House searches, and other supporting documentation.
  • Undertaking required customer due-diligence through document assessment and validation.
  • Protecting the customer and the bank by having a strong knowledge of anti-money laundering policies and fraud prevention processes.

Key Requirements

We require candidates to possess strong technical system knowledge of mortgage origination systems and wider supporting systems, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks to meet service KPIs and adhere to standard operating procedures.
