Reliability Engineer - Financial Systems

Overview:

The Role of a Reliability Engineer in Financial Systems is critical to ensuring the stability, scalability, and operational excellence of accounting platforms.

This role focuses on delivering highly reliable financial applications and data services that meet the demanding requirements of accuracy, compliance, and availability necessary for business operations.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure financial platforms meet defined service level agreements (SLAs), service level objectives (SLOs), and service level indicators (SLIs) for performance, reliability, and uptime.
  • Become proficient in automation tools to reduce manual effort and operational risk.
  • Implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging for accounting applications and data pipelines.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, perform root cause analysis, and drive improvements to prevent recurrence of production issues.
  • Establish best practices for capacity planning, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and compliance controls in financial systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and finance teams to ensure operational needs are met from development through production.
  • Implement audit, compliance, and security requirements for financial applications and data pipelines.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or production engineering, preferably supporting financial or mission-critical applications.
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring/observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, and financial system integrations from an operational support perspective.
  • Proficiency in scripting/programming languages (Python, Bash, Go, etc.) for automation and tooling.
  • Proven ability to manage incident response and conduct blameless postmortems.
  • Experience ensuring compliance, security, and audit-readiness in enterprise applications.

  • Experience building resilience into data pipelines and ensuring auditability for accounting data.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate operational issues and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
