The role of the Senior Legal Director is a key position in the legal leadership team, reporting directly to the Group Chief Legal Officer.

This senior professional will be responsible for leading the legal function from a strategic perspective and overseeing all aspects of legal affairs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-level legal advice on a broad range of issues, influencing business strategy and decision-making.
  • Assisting with litigation strategy and managing external counsel relationships.
  • Leading internal teams and providing guidance on corporate governance matters.
  • Overseeing the legal aspects of business acquisitions and transactions.
Key Responsibilities:Corporate Governance:
  • Lead equity deals and ensure closure of agreements with other parties.
Contracts and Agreements:
  • Manage the contracts function from the legal team, involving drafting, negotiations, and finalization of contracts with third-party vendors and suppliers.
Litigations and Dispute Resolution:
  • Support decision-making with respect to strategic litigations.
  • Lead litigations as per the advice of the GCLO/management.
Business Development:
  • Support the Business Acquisition team in participating in competitive bids.
  • Review bid documents and issue detailed risk analysis.
Policy Advocacy:
  • Provide general legal advisory on policy interpretation and strategy.
  • Review proposed standard bidding documents or amendments to existing standard bidding documents.

Requirements:

  • Law graduate from a reputable law school, with significant experience in multinational companies, preferably in power/infrastructure/energy sectors.
  • A mix of in-house and law firm experience would be preferable.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Sound commercial understanding of power/energy business; and government tenders/projects.
  • Ability to successfully engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
