OSP Engineer Position

We are seeking a skilled OSP Engineer to join our team.

  • This position involves creating and modifying detailed drawings using CAD and QGIS tools and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by field engineering.
  • The ideal candidate will create and contribute to high-level designs to facilitate manufacturing operations or quality of product. They will check drawing plots versus project inputs for correctness and conformance to standards.
  • The OSP Engineer will work with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, and industry-standard drafting.
  • They may also be responsible for working with system management including file maintenance, backup, and storage.

Essential Functions:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS and layering, fundamental knowledge of Outside Plant, running line, conduit and cable design for fiber optics, manholes, hand holes, and poles (aerial and underground).
  • The successful candidate will assist in planning, analysis, and recommendations in support of new construction of outside plant network structures and facilities.
  • A thorough understanding/experience in the Outside Plant telecom industry, public right-of-way, private easements, and existing utilities such as water, sewer, electric, gas, and other underground and aerial utilities is required.
  • Knowledgeable in city, county, state, and local municipalities encroachment permits, Traffic Control and specialty permits (e.g., UPRR, Caltrans, etc.), easement right away and various environmental permits are highly desired.
  • The OSP Engineer must be able to interact with local municipalities, Telco engineers, and construction/maintenance forces to acquire OSP Records, ICGS, Assessor Maps, map info, AIS, and Construction Prints.
  • Site surveys, translating field notes to develop and update conduit/cable engineering design drawings in AutoCAD, are also essential functions.
  • NDS and AutoCAD experience are required.
  • Preferred experience with GPON and Corning Flexnap products is a plus.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • An associate or bachelor's degree or relevant work experience up to 5-8 years of related experience. Telecom experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office; including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. Experience reading blueprints, conduit prints, and floor plans is required.
  • Experience reading and creating permit drawings and applications is necessary.
  • The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills for interfacing with different work groups internally or externally.
  • Be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-starter.
  • Looking for someone with experience in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, Advanced AutoCAD, QGIS experience a plus.
