Cloud Infrastructure Expert

We are seeking a seasoned Cloud Infrastructure Specialist to join our team on a part-time, remote basis. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cloud infrastructure and GCP setup, with the ability to lead evaluations, transformations, and improvements of enterprise cloud environments.

About the Role

You will be responsible for assessing client GCP setups, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices. Your expertise in designing and modifying architectures using GCP services will ensure secure, scalable, and efficient cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess current-state GCP setups: Evaluate networking, security, reliability, and cost configurations to deliver clear improvement plans.
  • Implement IaC: Use Terraform or similar tools to establish reusable modules and guardrails, ensuring consistent and repeatable deployments.
  • Design/modify architectures: Utilize GCP services such as VPC, subnets, Cloud NAT, Load Balancing, Cloud DNS, IAM, Service Accounts, and Secrets Manager to create secure and efficient cloud environments.
  • Build and run workloads: Containerize applications where sensible and tune autoscaling to ensure optimal performance.
  • Configure databases: Set up Cloud SQL, Spanner, Memorystore, and BigQuery as needed, ensuring data consistency and availability.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines: Use Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or similar tools to automate builds, tests, and deployments, while enforcing policy checks and environment promotion.
  • Monitoring and Security: Implement monitoring and logging with Cloud Monitoring & Logging, setting SLOs and error budgets as appropriate, and harden security through least-privilege access and org policies.
  • Cost Optimization: Analyze and optimize costs by rightsizing resources, leveraging committed use discounts, and optimizing storage lifecycle and data egress patterns.
Requirements:
  • 4+ years in cloud infrastructure: Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure on GCP.
  • IaC and DevOps skills: Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, and experience with Git workflows.
  • GCP expertise: Deep knowledge of VPC design, routing/NAT, load balancing, IAM, GKE/containers, and Linux fundamentals.
  • Security and compliance: Experience introducing controls like org policies, folder/project structure, billing budgets/alerts, and SCC.
  • Communication and collaboration: Excellent English oral communication skills and proven ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and deliver safely in regulated/enterprise contexts.
