Red Hat OpenShift customers deserve the best long-term product experience, and that’s where you come in. As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you’ll work closely with Product Engineering to deliver extended product maintenance work, including handling bugs and CVEs in extended life streams of Red Hat OpenShift. You’ll be the driving force behind all aspects of Red Hat OpenShift maintenance for a subset of product components focused on software development that goes beyond the normal maintenance phase of Red Hat OpenShift minor releases. Your expertise will contribute to the patch review process, the development and execution of backports and test plans, and the creation of automation tools to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and quality of Red Hat’s patch delivery to customers.

What will you do?

You’ll contribute to the development of new Red Hat OpenShift product maintenance offerings, aiming to make Red Hat a global leader in long-term product experience. Your daily activities will involve driving the daily activities of product maintenance engineering teams, serving as a regional and global contributor on Red Hat OpenShift product issues.

You’ll resolve and address critical issues that have an impact on long-term regional or global business success of Red Hat OpenShift. Your work will involve collaborating with developer and QE counterparts and release engineering teams across the globe to ensure the development and delivery of fixes meet the schedule requirements and high quality standards expected and required by Red Hat customers.

You’ll diagnose the root cause of failures, backport CVE and bug fixes to stable release streams, develop, maintain, and monitor tests and onboard automated tests into a continuous integration workflow as much as possible. Your expertise will also be used to develop features and bug fixes in Kubernetes (upstream) and OpenShift (downstream) within an agile team and as part of a global development organization.

What will you bring?

You’ll bring expertise in at least one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java. Good debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills are a must, as well as experience committing code at scale on source control structures. You’ll also need multi-tasking skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines, as well as problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with Root Cause Analysis experience. Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are also required.
