Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service) and Oracle PL/SQL databases.
- Optimize SQL Server and Oracle PL/SQL performance by troubleshooting issues and ensuring efficient database operations.
- Develop and maintain database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and auditing, in accordance with best practices and compliance requirements.
- Develop and execute database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Scale database resources as needed to accommodate growth and changing workloads, perform capacity planning, and allocate resources appropriately.
- Set up monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address database issues using AWS CloudWatch and other tools.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience with Oracle and Postgres database development.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Amazon RDS and its features, including automated backups, automated software patching, and scalability options.
- Proficiency in SQL, PowerShell, or other scripting languages for automation and maintenance tasks.
- Understanding of database security principles, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Experience with database monitoring and alerting tools, such as AWS CloudWatch or third-party solutions.
- Knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery and high availability solutions.
- Ability to assess database resource requirements and plan for scaling as needed.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving database issues.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Certifications: AWS and SQL Server certifications are often preferred.
- Very good programming experience as an Oracle PL/SQL Developer. Python experience is an additional benefit.
- Linux knowledge is an added advantage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Database Developer.
- Experience working within the healthcare industry is desirable.
- Familiarity with healthcare-specific IT systems and industry regulations, such as Electronic Health Record systems and HIPAA.
