Medical Coding Specialist

This role involves reviewing clinical documentation to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes. The successful candidate will have expertise in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review patient medical records for coding accuracy.
  • Conduct Risk Adjustment/HCC coding to identify chronic conditions.
  • Perform chart audits to evaluate documentation insufficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve queries with providers or documentation authors.
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy targets.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations and coding certification requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and process improvement initiatives.
  • (If applicable) Assist in denial management and support payment integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Certification: CPC and/or CRC from recognized bodies.
  • Educational Qualification: Graduate degree preferably in Life Sciences.
  • Experience: Typically 1-3 years coding experience in U.S. healthcare.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology.
  • Proficiency with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems.
  • Good analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Effective communication and computer skills.
  • Experience with payer policies and Medicare/Medicaid.
  • Ability to mentor/train junior coders.
