API Manager Job Description

This is a highly skilled position that involves managing and developing APIs using the Apigee Edge platform. As an API manager, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable APIs that meet the needs of both public and internal applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • API Management & Development: Design, develop, and implement scalable APIs using the Apigee Edge platform.
  • Configure API proxies, API products, and API versions in the Apigee platform.
  • Develop and maintain API policies for tasks such as authentication, rate-limiting, logging, error handling, and caching.
  • API Integration: Work closely with development and operations teams to integrate APIs with backend systems and third-party services.
  • Ensure seamless integration of Apigee with other enterprise tools and systems.
  • Security & Authentication: Implement API security protocols including OAuth2, JWT, API key management, and IP whitelisting to secure APIs and sensitive data.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices in API security, data privacy, and protection against threats.
  • Monitoring & Optimization: Set up monitoring dashboards and analytics in Apigee for tracking API usage, performance, and error rates.
  • Analyze API traffic and performance metrics to ensure API reliability and optimization.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities.
  • API Versioning & Lifecycle Management: Manage and coordinate the versioning and lifecycle of APIs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth transitions between different API versions.
  • Documentation & Support: Document the API development process, API designs, and policies within Apigee.
  • Provide technical support for developers using APIs.
  • Governance & Policy Enforcement: Implement API governance practices to ensure compliance with organizational standards and policies.
  • Enforce rate limiting, throttling, caching, and other policies to optimize API performance.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in API management, with at least 1-2 years of hands-on experience using Apigee.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing Apigee Edge platform.
  • Knowledge of API protocols (REST, SOAP), web services, and API security mechanisms.
  • Experience in API versioning, management, and monitoring tools.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and containerized applications.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages to write API policies and customize integrations.
