Senior Backend Developer / Tech Lead

Job Overview:

Drive existing backend system forward, leading team of engineers. Technical expertise, leadership, and hands-on approach required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own existing project and drive it forward with minimal ramp-up time.
  • Lead design and development efforts for new features, systems integrations, and refactoring projects.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including frontend, DevOps, QA, and product.
  • Manage technical backlog, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Set direction for architecture and backend design with clear vision.

Team Mentorship & Code Quality

  • Guide junior and mid-level developers, providing code reviews, feedback, and technical leadership.
  • Establish coding standards, design principles, and software engineering best practices.
  • Promote culture of continuous improvement, clean code, and ownership.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and provide growth opportunities.

Backend Development & Architecture

  • Design scalable, maintainable backend solutions using Node.js, Express.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Work with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Build and optimize RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
  • Architect monolithic and microservices architectures.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization solutions.
  • Improve system performance, scalability, and observability.

Process & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with product team to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.
  • Drive sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives with agile methodologies.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years in backend development with strong experience in Node.js, Express, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Proficient in database design and management (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Proven experience with API design (REST & GraphQL), and secure authentication systems.
  • Strong understanding of clean code principles and test-driven development (TDD).
  • Experience with architectural patterns, Event-driven architecture, de-coupled systems, and service-oriented design.
  • Proficiency with Git, CI/CD tools, Docker, and deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments and infrastructure as code is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading engineering teams.
  • Experience with performance tuning, observability, and scalability.
  • Exposure to serverless architectures and container orchestration.
  • Background in startup environments or greenfield projects is a plus.
