Java Backend Engineer

Job Overview

The successful candidate will work closely with product managers and engineering teams to deliver scalable web applications using Java.

  • Work as part of an agile team to design, develop, and test responsive web applications.
  • Develop a deep understanding of integrations with other systems and platforms within supported domains.
  • Perform ongoing code refactoring and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a core member of the development team, driving user story analysis, design, and development.
  • Perform hands-on software development, writing code, unit tests, conducting proof of concepts, code reviews, and testing in ongoing sprints.
  • Manage own time and work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Requirements

Qualified candidates must have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in Java and demonstrating good Java knowledge.
  • Good web fundamentals and HTTP protocol knowledge.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD) practices, and unit testing.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery environments.
  • 3-4 years working in Agile or SAFe development environment.
  • Proven experience building scalable web applications using Java.
Preferred Skills

Candidates with the following skills are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with Spring, Spring Boot, Dropwizard, or other Java frameworks.
  • Experience with JavaScript on Node stack is a plus.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems.
  • Git, API Gateway, Microservices, Postman, Swagger, JUNIT, Maven, Selenium Testing Automation, or similar technologies.
