Data Engineer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to play a key role in designing and implementing optimal data pipeline architectures.

Responsibilities include creating and maintaining events/streaming based architectures/designs, identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements, automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.

The ideal candidate will build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS 'big data' technologies. Additionally, you will create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.

  • Mandatory qualifications include proficiency in either Scala or Python, expertise in Spark, and experience with performance tuning and optimization.
  • DBT is also mandatory.
  • You should have 2+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role.

Required skills include experience with big data tools: HDFS/S3, Spark/Flink, Hive, Hbase, Kafka/Kinesis, etc. You should also be experienced with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Elasticsearch and Cassandra/Mongodb.

AWS/GCP cloud services experience is also necessary. Furthermore, experience with stream-processing systems: Spark-Streaming/Flink etc., and object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Java, Scala, etc. is required.

If you have experience building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines, architectures and data sets, that's a plus. A strong understanding of working with structured/unstructured datasets is also important.

In addition, you should be able to build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, dimensional modeling, metadata, dependency, schema registration/evolution and workload management. You should also have a working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable 'big data' data stores.

Lastly, you should have experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. It's a plus if you have contributed to an open-source project, worked at a product company, or have a few weekend side projects up on GitHub.
