Senior Software Architect for Data Solutions

The role is a key part of the Commercial Data team in Advertising, developing leading property and market data insights to power Real Commercial products.

This squads sits in the Real Commercial tribe, the #1 place for commercial property and data in Australia. We're seeking an experienced Senior Lead Engineer (7-10 years' experience) who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys being hands-on tackling technical challenges and leading teams to deliver innovative solutions.

You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the globe, leading the design, development, and optimization of features to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions that deliver exceptional user experiences.

The Senior Lead Engineer role has key strategic importance and visibility within the business. This is a unique role that will focus on delivering thought leadership in advertising technologies, designing innovative solutions, and helping teams leverage this to produce world class advertising products.

Responsibilities:

• Leading or significantly contributing to initiatives with strategic focus and value
• Solving deep, complex technical problems in ways that enable other team members to learn and extend
• Supporting the Engineering Manager/Tech Lead in setting the technical direction
• Providing technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of the team
• Supporting and driving continuous improvement of our production systems and being an advocate for the overall health of our systems
• Working with stakeholders to design high quality solutions that meet the needs of our users, including vendor platforms
• Writing, testing and documenting code according to REA Engineering standards and practices

Requirements:

• Well-versed in SQL, Python, ETL / ELT pipelines
• Experience with Data modelling
• Experience with Data pipelines
• Experience with Data consumption
• Experience with Data analysis and documentation
• Experience with Data warehousing
• Advanced skills in designing solutions that scale and perform for millions of users.
• Advanced skills in developing long-term system architecture strategies.
• Experience with modern software development techniques (e.g. functional programming, microservice architecture, test-driven development and CI/CD)
• Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders.
• Able to understand business, customer and consumer needs to provide appropriate data solutions.
• Able to mentor other engineers in a collaborative agile team environment.
• Someone passionate about data and the latest data technologies.
• Good awareness of TDD, CI/CD approaches and tools.

Bonus Points:

• Experience Big Query / PostgreSQL / MSSQL, Python libraries (Pandas, Requests, JSON), Docker, Kafka, Linux shell scripting, Git / GitHub, AWS (S3, Lambda, IaC), Airflow, Interacting with REST APIs
