Senior System Reliability Expert Role

The organization is looking for someone with a strong background in combining development and operations knowledge to make the organization better. If you have a history of improving service reliability by adding observability, your skillset would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have drive, ownership, and the ability to tackle challenging problems, both technical and process related, in a dynamic, collaborative environment. As a Senior System Reliability Expert, you'll work closely with product development teams, Cloud Infrastructure, and other SRE teams to ensure effective observability and improve reliability of products, SLDC, and Infrastructure.

You'll use your generalist background to see the big picture, work collaboratively with teams, and solve hard multi-disciplinary problems. Technical expertise in cloud operations, software development lifecycle, and Observability tools will be helpful. We use SRE principles like blameless postmortems and focus on automation to improve knowledge and maintain a good quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enlighten, enable, and empower fast-growing sets of multi-disciplinary teams across multiple applications and locations.
  • Tackle complex development, automation, and business process problems, championing organizational standards and best practices.
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and resilience of products and processes.
  • Work with product development teams, Cloud Automation, and other SRE teams to identify and resolve observability gaps effectively.
  • Identify recurring problems and anti-patterns in development, operational, and security processes and help teams build observability.
  • Develop, test, and deploy automation that targets multiple on-premises and AWS regions.
  • Contribute to Open-Source projects.
Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills and track record working in distributed teams.
  • A passion for making things better for peers.
  • Experience managing AWS services and operational knowledge of managing applications in AWS via automation.
  • Fluency in scripting languages like Typescript, Javascript, Python, Ruby, and Bash.
  • SDLC methodologies (preferably Agile) experience.
  • Observability experience (Logging, Metrics, Tracing) and SLI/SLO.
  • APM, monitoring, and logging tool experience (Datadog, New Relic, Splunk).
  • Good understanding of containerization concepts - docker, ECS, EKS, Kubernetes.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshooting and responding to incidents, setting a standard for others to prevent issues in the future.
Desirable Skills:
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools experience such as CloudFormation, CDK, and Terraform.
  • 3-tier application stacks management experience.
  • Basic networking concepts understanding.
  • Server configuration through Chef, Puppet, Ansible, or equivalent experience.
  • NoSQL databases experience such as MongoDB, Couchbase, Postgres.
  • APM data troubleshooting and performance bottleneck finding experience.
