Job Description

The Associate Director is a critical member of our team responsible for overseeing and coordinating HVAC system design for complex projects. This individual will be accountable for developing and implementing energy-efficient HVAC solutions, mentoring junior engineers in HVAC design principles, and ensuring compliance with local and national building codes and regulations.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with at least 15 years of relevant experience. They must also possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license in HVAC and extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, design principles, and energy-efficient solutions.

We are looking for an exceptional project manager with excellent leadership skills, who can effectively communicate and present complex technical information to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large-size projects.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Approves and signs off on work.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Participates in development of technical proposals.
  • Provides estimates for engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
  • Oversees and coordinates HVAC system design for complex projects.
  • Develops and implements energy-efficient HVAC solutions.
  • Mentors and guides junior engineers in HVAC design principles.
  • Ensures compliance with local and national building codes and regulations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field + 15 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in HVAC.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, design principles, and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Trane TRACE).
  • Strong understanding of building codes and ASHRAE standards.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Superior communication and presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing mid to large-size HVAC projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • LEED AP certification.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices and renewable energy systems.
  • Active participation in professional organizations (e.g., ASHRAE, USGBC).
