Cloud Automation Engineer Role Overview

The Cloud Automation Engineer is part of the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), responsible for delivering cloud solutions to internal application teams. This role focuses on implementing scalable, available, and secure architecture solutions. Key responsibilities include leading development of requirements, managing engagement to automate cloud services, and assisting senior colleagues with continuous delivery systems and methodologies on public cloud providers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and manage requirements for automating cloud services through a service catalogue
  2. Familiarity with Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment
  3. Assist senior colleagues with continuous delivery systems and methodologies on public cloud providers
  4. Implement software development life cycle to deliver cloud solutions
  5. Develop automated solutions to monitor and support software development and release processes
  6. Deliver automation of security controls, governance processes, and compliance validation
  7. Manage and maintain tools to automate operational processes
  8. Assist in implementing solutions based on architectural best practices and established architectural frameworks
  9. Assist with design and implementation of available, cost-efficient, fault-tolerant, and scalable distributed systems
  10. Assist with implementation of cloud architecture solutions based on defined standards for CCoE
  11. Deliver simple cloud architecture patterns and implementations based on customer requirements
  12. Assist with implementation of lift and shift of existing on-premises applications to public clouds
  13. Assist with analysis of application portfolios and migration feasibility
  14. Assist with integration of cloud infrastructure/network environment with corporate infrastructure/on-prem environment
  15. Assist with design of reference architecture for implementation of codified stacks that meet application needs
  16. Educate team on implementing best practices
  17. Provide hands-on technical support to accelerate cloud learning among peers

Required Qualifications

  1. Deep knowledge of cloud automation practices, including auto-scale infrastructure provisioning, automated infrastructure testing, and automated monitoring
  2. Knowledge of automation services such as Lambda, API Gateway, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline
  3. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  4. Familiarity with cloud computing technologies
  5. Familiarity with public cloud design principles, architectural best practices, and industry standards
  6. Prior programming background in at least one language, such as C++, Java, Python, or Ruby
  7. Familiarity with IaaS and PaaS solutions
  8. Knowledge of technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization
  9. Familiarity with cloud computing technologies and workload transition challenges
  10. Familiarity with IaaS platforms such as OCI, AWS, or GCP
  11. Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC)
