Cloudflare WAF Specialist Job Description

The Cloudflare Web Application Firewall (WAF) Specialist will be responsible for managing cloud-based security policies, application shields, and threat intelligence filters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tune web security policies to minimize false positives and enhance protection against OWASP Top 10 threats
  • Monitor web traffic anomalies and implement proactive measures to prevent malicious activity
  • Integrate WAF alerts with central security information and event management systems for real-time visibility
  • Collaborate with development teams to validate WAF configurations before deployment
  • Troubleshoot WAF-related issues, performance problems, and content caching anomalies
  • Maintain access controls, rate limiting, and geo-restriction rules to ensure secure application delivery
  • Generate reports for stakeholders and participate in threat modeling exercises to improve overall security posture
  • Assist senior team members in rule set upgrades, custom signature development, and API security enhancements
  • Participate in disaster recovery drills and ensure WAF availability in failover scenarios

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with Cloudflare WAF or equivalent solutions (e.g., Akamai, AWS WAF)
  • Deep understanding of web protocols, application headers, and transport layer security
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines and application security standards

Preferred Certifications

  • Cloudflare Certified WAF Practitioner (if available)
  • CEH or GIAC Web Application Defender (GWEB) certification
  • OWASP Top 10 expertise
