Web Services Engineer Job Description

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Web Services Engineer to design, develop and maintain web services and APIs that support seamless integration between internal systems and third-party applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in JSON data handling and integration maintenance, with experience working with XML, RESTful API development and SOAP web services. Knowledge of authentication and security protocols (OAuth, JWT, API keys) is also required.

Additionally, the candidate should have good programming skills in languages like Java, Node.js, Python or similar, as well as strong debugging and troubleshooting skills. Experience working with version control tools (Git) is also necessary.

Preferred qualifications include experience with JSON schema validation and transformation, knowledge of microservices architecture, exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automation tools, and understanding of database systems and SQL.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver integration solutions, ensuring smooth integration between various systems, both internal and third-party.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, maintain and troubleshoot RESTful web services and APIs with JSON as the primary data format.
  2. Ensure smooth integration between various systems, both internal and third-party.
  3. Monitor, maintain and optimize existing web services for reliability, scalability and security.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, QA and business analysts to gather requirements and deliver integration solutions.
  5. Debug and resolve integration issues and provide timely fixes.
  6. Document web service architecture, workflows and integration processes.
  7. Implement best practices for API security, error handling and data validation.
  8. Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards.
