Portfolio Management Opportunities

Eligibility Requirements:
  • The applicant must be a corporate entity.
  • Adequate infrastructure, including office space, equipment, and personnel, is required.
  • A compliance officer must be appointed.
  • The principal officer of the applicant must possess a professional qualification in law, finance, accountancy, or business management, or have completed the CFA program.
  • The principal officer must have at least five years of experience in related activities within the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management.

Provided that at least two years of relevant experience is in portfolio management or investment advisory services, or in areas related to fund management.

  • Obtaining NISM XXI-B certification is mandatory.
    • In addition to the principal officer and compliance officer, the applicant must employ at least one individual who is a graduate and has at least two years of experience in related activities within the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management. If this individual is a fund manager, they must meet the same qualification and experience requirements as the principal officer.
    • The applicant must satisfy capital adequacy requirements, which include a minimum net worth of Rs. 5 crores.
    • Net worth is calculated as paid-up equity capital plus free reserves (excluding reserves created through revaluation) minus accumulated losses and deferred expenses not written off (including miscellaneous expenses not written off).
    • Separate and independent capital adequacy requirements apply for each activity undertaken by the applicant under relevant regulations.
    • The applicant, its directors, principal officers, compliance officers, or employees must not be involved in any litigation or convicted of an offense involving moral turpitude.
    • The applicant must be deemed fit and proper, as per Schedule II of the SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2008.
    • Granting a certificate to the applicant is in the interest of investors.
    • Application Form A must be filed with SEBI (both physical and online) along with the fee structure:
    • Application fees: INR 1 lakh
    • Registration fees: INR 10 lakhs
    • Renewal fees (to maintain registration): INR 5 lakhs every three years
    Additional Qualifications:
    • Possession of a professional qualification in law, finance, accountancy, or business management.
    • Completion of the CFA program.
    • At least five years of experience in related activities within the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management.
