Environmental Modelling Software Specialist

We are seeking a seasoned environmental modelling expert with strong programming expertise to take on the role of Software Engineer.

Working alongside our Principal Soil Modeller, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining components of the Agricarbon Ecosystem Model (AEM) using Python. This includes working with agricultural ecosystem models including plant growth models, soil organic carbon models, soil water models, mineral nitrogen models, and grazing models.

You will need to be adaptable and capable of working independently and as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team reflecting engineering, GIS, soil science, quality management, and data systems, as well as collaborating effectively with external partners.

  • Develop and integrate model components, ensuring seamless data flow between different AEM modules.
  • Implement and maintain the integration between different AEM components, using Bayesian data assimilation framework.
Required Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with advanced programming skills in Python, proficiency with scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, GeoPandas) and Bayesian statistical libraries (PyMC or similar).

  • Extensive experience with machine learning techniques and their application to environmental data.
  • Strong understanding of ecosystem models and related areas.
  • Excellent data science skills, including model validation and statistical analysis.
