Patch Management Specialist Job Description

Our team is seeking a skilled Patch Management Specialist to join our IT department. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective patch management processes and schedules for operating systems, applications, and network devices.

You will coordinate patch testing, validation, and deployment across various environments, including development, staging, and production. To automate patch deployment, you will use patch management tools such as Microsoft SCCM, WSUS, Ivanti, SolarWinds, or ManageEngine.

The successful candidate will monitor and report on patch compliance and remediation status, collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and security teams to ensure patches are applied without disrupting business operations. You will identify, assess, and prioritize critical patches based on security advisories and risk assessments.

Maintaining detailed documentation of patch management procedures, configurations, and audit logs is essential for this role. Additionally, you will assist in vulnerability management efforts by integrating patch status into broader security programs.

To excel in this position, you should have a strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems patching processes. Familiarity with software lifecycle management and configuration management is also desirable. Excellent organizational, communication, and troubleshooting skills are required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in patch management or IT systems administration.
  • Hands-on experience with patch management tools such as SCCM, WSUS, Ivanti, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems patching processes.
  • Understanding of software lifecycle management and configuration management.
