At CACTUS, we are seeking a talented and skilled Scientific Graphic Designer to join our team. As part of this role, you will play a key part in transforming complex scientific ideas into engaging visuals for various audiences.

The successful candidate will have the ability to combine scientific expertise with creative design skills to produce accurate and visually appealing materials. This will include scientific illustrations, graphical abstracts, journal cover images, infographics, posters, brochures, and more.

Key responsibilities of this role will be to:

  • Develop visually engaging graphical abstracts that effectively capture the essence of a scientific study
  • Read and comprehend scientific manuscripts to extract key visual elements and concepts
  • Develop storyboards that outline the visual narrative, ensuring alignment with the scientific content and client objectives
  • Generate rough sketches to illustrate initial visual concepts, collaborating closely with researchers, writers, and clients to refine and finalize the visual representation
  • Review peers' and freelancers' outputs to ensure they meet client expectations and are delivery-ready

Required qualifications for this role include:

  • A graduate or PhD degree in a STEM field (particularly Biology/Biotechnology/Medicine/Chemistry/Physics/Engineering)
  • 3-5 years of experience in scientific graphic designing, communicating science and complex research into visually engaging output
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop)
  • Experience in creating 3D designs using Blender is an added advantage
  • An understanding of the scientific publishing and science communication landscape
