Senior Research Analyst Role Overview

Our team seeks a skilled researcher to conduct in-depth analysis of various financial products.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and tracking performance of mutual funds, portfolio management services, and alternative investment funds in India.

Key duties include:

  • Quantitative analysis: alpha, beta, Sharpe ratio, information ratio, drawdowns, rolling returns, capture ratios, and consistency metrics.
  • Qualitative assessment of fund houses, investment philosophy, fund managers, and risk management practices.
  • Monitoring portfolio positioning, sector/market cap exposures, liquidity profile, and churn across managers.
  • Comparing fund strategies against benchmarks and peer groups; identifying outperformers and laggards.

Due Diligence & Manager Evaluation

  • Conducting due diligence meetings with fund managers, CIOs, and investment teams.
  • Assessing fund manager's track record, tenure, investment style, and decision-making process.
  • Reviewing compliance, governance, and operational risks of PMS/AIF platforms.
  • Maintaining an internal scoring/rating framework for shortlisting products.

Market & Industry Tracking

  • Staying updated on SEBI regulations, tax rules, and industry developments impacting MFs, PMS, and AIFs.
  • Tracking flows, AUM trends, and innovation in product structures (e.g., Cat III AIFs, structured products, factor-based funds).
  • Monitoring global trends in asset allocation and alternatives for applicability in the Indian context.

Reporting & Client Support

  • Preparing research reports, fund notes, presentations, and model portfolios for internal teams and clients.
  • Supporting the investment committee with recommendations and research insights.
  • Assisting sales/advisory teams with fund data, market outlook, and client-facing analysis.
  • Contributing to whitepapers, newsletters, and thought-leadership content.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of financial markets, asset classes, portfolio management, and risk analytics.
  • Proficiency in quantitative techniques – regression, risk-return metrics, factor attribution.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative insights for decision-making.
  • Knowledge of SEBI regulations for MFs, PMS, and AIFs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Finance/Economics/Statistics/Commerce.
  • Professional qualifications preferred: CFA, CA, MBA (Finance), FRM, CIPM, or equivalent.
  • 4–6 years of relevant experience in mutual fund research, PMS analysis, buy-side/sell-side research, or wealth management.
