Cruelty to Animals Investigator Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to fill the position of Cruelty to Animals Investigator.

This role requires conducting thorough investigations into animal cruelty cases, gathering evidence, and analyzing data to prepare comprehensive reports. The successful candidate will be responsible for working independently in stressful environments, travelling extensively, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct rigorous field investigations, including desk research and on-site visits, to collect evidence of animal abuse.
  • Analyze technical documents, videos, and other sources to prepare for investigations and create detailed checklists.
  • Travel to and stay on location for extended periods to conduct investigations.
  • BUILD and maintain relationships with trusted contacts during investigations, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Document findings through photography, videography, and detailed log notes.
  • Collaborate with in-house legal counsel to assess evidence and prepare reports for submission to authorities.
  • Work with experts to evaluate investigation findings and provide recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed reports of findings, including clear narratives and supporting evidence.
  • Perform additional tasks to prepare findings for public release.
  • Cooperate with law enforcement and courts as needed.

Requirements:

  • Investigative journalism or related experience preferred.
  • Brief veterinary knowledge or experience a plus.
  • Experience as an Honorary Animal Welfare Representative, recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India, a plus.
  • Confidence with audio-visual equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of animal protection laws and rights issues.
  • Fluency in English and Hindi required; other Indian languages a plus.
  • Demonstrated research skills, written and verbal communication abilities, and organisational skills.
  • Able to handle stress and trauma associated with witnessing animal abuse.
  • Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods, if required.
