At Sumo Logic, we are seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer to join our global team. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, scalability, and performance of our planet-scale observability and security products.



Responsibilities




  • Develop and maintain a reliability roadmap to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement in reliability, maintainability, security, efficiency, and velocity.
  • Collaborate with development infrastructure, Global SRE, and engineering teams to establish and refine the reliability roadmap.
  • Participate in defining, evolving, and managing Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for multiple teams.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to understand operational workloads and improve the on-call experience.
  • Implement projects to optimize and tune on-call experiences for engineering teams.
  • Improve the lifecycle of microservices and architectural components from inception to deployment, operation, and refinement.
  • Write code and automation to reduce operational workloads, improve security posture, eliminate toil, and enable developers to deliver features rapidly.
  • Work with developer infrastructure teams to adopt tools that advance the reliability roadmap.
  • Scale systems sustainably through automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
  • Facilitate blame-free root cause analysis meetings for incidents to drive improvement.
  • Participate in and improve the global Incident Response Coordination (IRC) process.
  • Drive root cause identification and issue resolution with teams.


Requirements and Skills




  • Cloud-native application development experience with best practices and design patterns.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across the technology stack.
  • Deep understanding of AWS Networking, Compute, Storage, and managed services.
  • Competency with modern CI/CD tooling like Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins.
  • Experience with full lifecycle support of services from creation to production support.
  • Versatility with Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform or Cloud Formation.
  • Ability to author production-ready code in at least one of Java, Scala, or Go.
  • Experience with Linux systems and proficiency with the command line.
  • Understanding and application of modern approaches to cloud-native software security.
  • Experience with agile frameworks like Scrum and Kanban and operating within these frameworks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new roles and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to learn and use Sumo Logic products for solving reliability and security issues.


Desirable Skills




  • Experience with Sumo Logic products or other observability products for reliability and security.
  • Experience with planet-scale product development.
  • Expert-level proficiency in running SaaS products on AWS Cloud.
  • Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka, Kafka Streams, or KSQL.
  • Expert-level experience in Java, Go, Scala, or Python.
  • Expert-level experience in Terraform, Jenkins, and Kubernetes.
  • Extensive experience running and tuning JVM workloads at scale.


Education and Experience




  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
  • 4-6 years of industry experience.


Language and Location



This role requires English language proficiency and remote work options.
