Senior Backup Engineer Job Summary

This role involves overseeing and troubleshooting backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability in high-volume data center environments. The Senior Backup Engineer will collaborate with the IT team to implement comprehensive data protection initiatives, monitor backup systems for performance and capacity, and provide expert guidance on best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Configure and manage backup solutions: Design and implement efficient backup strategies to ensure timely and secure data backups.
  • Troubleshoot issues: Identify and resolve problems related to backup jobs, tape libraries, and data deduplication.
  • Test backup and recovery processes: Conduct regular testing to verify data integrity and ensure seamless recovery procedures.
  • Maintain documentation: Keep accurate records of backup procedures, recovery plans, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with IT teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and execute data protection strategies.
  • Monitor backup systems: Continuously evaluate and optimize backup system performance and capacity to meet business requirements.
  • Implement security protocols: Develop and enforce robust security measures to safeguard sensitive data during backup and recovery operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Technical expertise: Strong knowledge of backup tools (e.g., Veritas, Veeam, Commvault, Networker), tape libraries, and data deduplication technologies.
  • Problem-solving skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot complex backup-related issues.
  • Communication skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and present technical information to non-technical audiences.
