About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Architect to design and implement high-performance data systems for our organisation.

This individual will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and tuning production databases across MSSQL and PostgreSQL, as well as administering AWS-managed services.

Key responsibilities include managing high availability, backups, restores, replication, and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring uptime and performance SLAs are met across cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Maintain and monitor production and staging databases.
  • Administer RDS, Aurora, and EC2-hosted database instances.

AWS Cloud Expertise:

  • Monitor database performance using CloudWatch and third-party tools.
  • Implement and enforce best practices in database normalization, partitioning, and data lifecycle management.

Data Architecture & Design:

  • Work with engineering teams to model new schemas, optimize indexes, and review queries.
  • Ensure data encryption, access controls, and audit logging are in place and compliant with company policies.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years of DBA experience, including at least 5+ years with MSSQL Server and 5+ years with PostgreSQL.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS database services: RDS, Aurora, S3, and IAM integration.
  • Solid understanding of SQL query optimization, execution plans, and troubleshooting slow queries.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB, Redis, Mongo).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
