About this Role

We are seeking a seasoned expert in database administration to oversee the performance, availability and security of our growing database infrastructure.

This individual will play a crucial role in designing scalable data architectures, ensuring high uptime and supporting development teams with optimized queries and resilient data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain production and staging databases across various platforms
  • Develop strategies for high availability, backups, restores, replication, and disaster recovery
  • Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met across cloud and hybrid environments

Data Management Expertise:

  • Administer relational databases using industry-standard tools and technologies
  • Monitor database performance using advanced analytics and monitoring tools

Data Architecture & Design:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to model new schemas, optimize indexes, and review queries
  • Implement best practices in database normalization, partitioning, and data lifecycle management

Security & Compliance:

  • Ensure data encryption, access controls, and audit logging are in place and compliant with regulatory requirements
  • Support initiatives related to data protection and compliance standards

Collaboration & Mentoring:

  • Provide guidance to developers and DevOps teams during code reviews and deployments
  • Share knowledge, mentor junior colleagues, and improve documentation and internal tooling

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in database administration, including at least:
  • 5+ years with SQL Server (query optimization, execution plans, and troubleshooting)
  • 5+ years with PostgreSQL (extensions, logical replication, and query optimization)
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud-based database services: Amazon RDS, Aurora, S3, and IAM integration
  • Solid understanding of SQL query optimization, execution plans, and troubleshooting slow queries
  • Proven track record of managing production-grade environments with strict uptime SLAs
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible
