Job Description:

To be successful in this role, you will assist the Head of Department or designated person in project progress, utilisation and forecasting. You will also mentor and guide junior team members, checking their work for quality and accuracy.


Responsibilities:

  • A proactive hands-on role in railroad track design projects
  • Management of the track design process through conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases
  • Development of ballasted and non-ballasted track structures, track alignment, profile and associated grading plus drainage
  • Assessment of rail vehicle/infrastructure clearances
  • Peer review of track design and associated reports prior to submission
  • Liaison with other disciplines to ensure all work is completed to a high standard and with a consistent approach
  • Preparation of design briefs, technical reports, design analysis and calculations
  • Calculation of quantities, preparation of cost estimates, project specifications and construction bid/tender documents
  • Provide technical direction to junior designers and oversee work undertaken by them
  • Working with Project Managers on developing design schedule and budgets


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Civil Engineering degree
  • Working towards or willing to work towards Chartership
  • 7-10 years experience of rail infrastructure/engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of MicroStation/AutoCAD/Open Rail Designer
  • Conversant with MS Office
  • Working knowledge of gauging clearance assessment
  • Working Knowledge of ProjectWise or Similar software for handling of designs
