Build a Scalable Cloud Platform from Scratch

We're looking for an experienced cloud engineer to design and implement our infrastructure from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to make architectural decisions that will impact the company for years to come.

The successful candidate will have deep expertise in GCP services and cloud architecture, as well as experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, and container orchestration. They will be responsible for building our cloud platform on GCP, designing and implementing our CI/CD pipeline, and establishing patterns that will be used for years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Platform Design: Architect our cloud platform on GCP, making crucial decisions on everything from network topology to data encryption strategies.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Implementation: Design and implement our first proper CI/CD pipeline that takes us from 30-minute deployments to sub-5 minute deployments.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code Foundation: Build our infrastructure-as-code foundation using Terraform, establishing patterns that will be used for years.

Security & Compliance Architecture:

  • Lead SOC2 Compliance Journey: Lead our SOC2 compliance journey by building security into every layer of our infrastructure.
  • Implement Customer-Managed Encryption: Implement customer-managed encryption and zero-trust networking as foundational principles, not afterthoughts.
  • Automated Security Scanning & Remediation: Create automated security scanning and remediation systems that make compliance invisible to developers.

Developer Platform Creation:

  • Self-Service Platform: Build the self-service platform that lets developers provision infrastructure in minutes, not days.
  • Golden Paths: Create golden paths that make the secure, scalable choice the default choice.
  • Observability Systems: Design observability systems that give developers superpowers in production.

Scale Preparation:

  • 100x Growth Infrastructure: Architect systems that can handle 100x growth without major rewrites.
  • Cost Optimization: Build cost optimization into our DNA - making smart resource decisions early.
  • Disaster Recovery & Backup: Create disaster recovery and backup systems before we need them.

What You'll Build in Year One:

  • Complete Infrastructure Migration: Complete infrastructure migration to Infrastructure-as-Code.
  • Sub-5 Minute Deployments: Sub-5 minute deployments with automatic rollbacks.
  • 99.9% Uptime: 99.9% uptime with comprehensive monitoring.
  • Full SOC2 Compliance: Full SOC2 compliance with automated controls.
  • Self-Service Platform Usage: Self-service platform used by every engineer daily.
  • 50% Reduction in Infrastructure Costs: 50% reduction in infrastructure costs through optimization.

Technical Requirements:

  • GCP Expertise: Deep expertise with GCP services and cloud architecture.
  • Terraform & Kubernetes Experience: Strong experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
  • Automation Skills: Proficiency in Go or Python for automation.
  • Security Best Practices: Understanding of security best practices and compliance frameworks.
  • Platform Scaling: Track record of building platforms that scale.
