Job Description

As a seasoned software engineer, you will play a key role in the modernization of our legacy platform. Your primary focus will be on migrating our legacy UI to Spring Boot microservices and hosting UI pages on AWS. Additionally, you will drive code refactoring, upgrades, security, and resilience improvements, monitoring, and other operational enhancements.

This is a short-term project with a duration of six months. You will work closely with our team to deliver high-quality results and ensure seamless integration with our existing systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining highly available, resilient, and secure production systems on AWS Cloud.
  • Migrating legacy UI systems to our new microservice architecture.
  • Upgrading legacy Java applications to Springboot applications ensuring high-quality and secure code.
  • Testing, documenting, and quality-proofing your work to ensure that software meets business and operational needs.
  • Maintaining CI/CD pipelines to optimize deployment processes.
  • Troubleshooting any issues to identify root cause and appropriate resolution.
  • Supporting production deployments, operations, and maintenance activities.
  • Monitoring metrics and identifying ways to improve logging, reporting, and alerting.
  • Following agile principles and participating in Scrum ceremonies.
  • Collaborating inside and outside the team - engaging with other engineering teams, product managers, support, and security teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience working with Java and related frameworks such as Spring/Springboot (this should include both newer Java versions as well as legacy versions, e.g. Java 8, Spring 3).
  • Excellent knowledge and experience working with Javascript and related frameworks (including old frameworks like Backbone.js/Marionette.js, JQuery).
  • Experience with CI/CD practices, build and deployment technologies (e.g. Maven, Jenkins, Docker).
  • Experience working with REST APIs.
  • Experience working in production with AWS Cloud infrastructure (e.g. EC2, RDS, S3, Elastic Search).
  • Understanding of security concepts and vulnerability management.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills - you are pragmatic and know how to build trust.
