At Goldman Sachs, we're seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Underwriting Specialist to join our team. This role is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about mortgage lending and want to make a meaningful contribution to the success of our business.

We estimate that the salary range for this position will be between $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.

About the Role

The Mortgage Loan Underwriting Specialist will be responsible for reviewing residential mortgage documents for accuracy and adherence to requirements. You will also assist in due diligence for the acquisition and sale or securitization of residential loan portfolios, working closely with our vendor partners. In addition, you will perform critical document reviews, including property reports and title policies, to identify any title deficiencies or prior liens or tax liens that affect our lien position on property.

You will also be responsible for performing valuation documents review, such as property appraisal review, BPO (Broker Price Opinion) review for loan and trade level requirements. Furthermore, you will support Transaction Managers on trade-related functions and perform ancillary reviews & various diligence reviews on loans. Additionally, you will review various lender guides against GS underwriting criteria to identify gaps to assist with trading desk for decision making.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work extensively with different servicers and perform continuous follow-ups to get loan-level data and documents required for various diligence reviews. You will also review and analyze invoices and supporting information to ensure accurate billing for services by third-party vendors. Furthermore, you will actively participate in system/technology/automation-related projects, assisting IT/System Administration with design, analysis, testing, and implementation aspects of enhancements made to the system.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 1-5 years of experience on US mortgage loan origination, underwriting, and mortgage documents review
  • Knowledgeable on mortgage documents such as Note, Mortgage Deed, Title Policy, Property Appraisal, BPO, and credit reports
  • Requires strong working knowledge on Residential Loan Underwriting, able to read and understand lending guides
  • Excellent decision-making and strong analytical skills
  • Self-confidence, good judgment, sound decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle a high-stress, fast-paced environment, and aggressive deadlines with minimum supervision; successfully meet established project requirements and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and be well organized
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility
  • Ensure that quality work product is maintained in a trade-based and time-sensitive environment
  • Knowledge of the principles and regulations applicable to mortgage lending
  • Experience reviewing loans for compliance with applicable federal and state laws, including but not limited to knowledge of regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA)-Regulation X, Truth-in-Lending Act (TILA)-Regulation Z
  • Excellent PC skills and possess a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, and Word
