Medical Transcription Specialist

A Medical Transcription Specialist is responsible for converting audio recordings made by doctors and other healthcare professionals into accurate, written medical reports. The role requires strong listening skills and attention to detail.

The specialist must be proficient in medical terminology and abbreviations, with the ability to understand complex medical concepts. They should also have fast and accurate typing skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe medical dictations: Listen to audio recordings of medical notes, consultations, discharge summaries, and operative reports, and type them into clear, accurate reports.
  • Edit and proofread reports: Review and correct grammar, spelling, and medical terminology errors in the transcribed reports.
  • Apply medical knowledge: Understand anatomy, physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments.
  • Maintain confidentiality: Handle patient records with strict confidentiality.
  • Use technology: Work with transcription software, speech recognition tools, and electronic health records (EHR).
