About the Role

The Program Officer will take ownership of our Primary Foundational Learning strategy in India. This role involves shaping the strategy with board approval, identifying grantees that align with it, and supporting and overseeing the grant portfolio.

The Program Officer will work closely with other colleagues in the region and be responsible for accelerating progress for grantees and the wider field. They will identify opportunities to accelerate locally-led systems change, offer input to other funders, and serve as a global resource on best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a strategic grantmaking plan for Primary Foundational Learning in India.
  • Administer and support an existing portfolio of grants, fostering strong relationships with grantees.
  • Identify high-leverage opportunities to advance our goals and make impactful decisions.
  • Expand the grant portfolio by discovering new grantees aligned with our strategy.
  • Present funding recommendations to the Board during quarterly meetings, advocating for effective investments.
Essential Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 12 years of professional experience, including 5 years of independent decision-making.
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in the education sector, specifically Primary Foundational Learning, with a commitment to gender equity.
  • Experience or expertise in gender transformative education programming, leadership, and organizational development is highly desirable.
  • A deep understanding of the political economy in education in India.
  • Ability to gather and synthesize information from various sources, making informed decisions.
