Large Scale Database Systems Administrator

We are seeking an experienced Database Systems Architect to design, implement and maintain large-scale database systems across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor production and staging databases for performance and availability
  • Develop and implement high availability strategies including backups, restores and replication
  • Ensure uptime and performance Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met across cloud and hybrid environments
  • Administer relational databases using SQL Server and PostgreSQL
  • Monitor database performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights and third-party tools
  • Work with engineering teams to optimize database schema and queries
  • Implement and enforce best practices in data normalization, partitioning and data lifecycle management
  • Ensure data encryption, access controls and audit logging are in place and compliant with company policies
  • Support GDPR/SOC 2/ISO 27001 initiatives with appropriate database controls and evidence collection
  • Provide guidance to developers and DevOps teams on database architecture and best practices
  • Share knowledge, mentor junior DBAs and improve documentation and internal tooling

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in database administration, including at least 5+ years with SQL Server and 5+ years with PostgreSQL
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS database services: RDS, Aurora, S3 and IAM integration
  • Solid understanding of SQL query optimization, execution plans and troubleshooting slow queries
  • Proven track record of managing production-grade environments with strict uptime SLAs
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible

Nice-to-have qualifications:

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. DynamoDB, Redis, Mongo)
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines with database change management tools (Flyway, Liquibase)
  • Knowledge of containerized database deployments (e.g. PostgreSQL on Kubernetes)
  • Certification in AWS (e.g. AWS Certified Database – Specialty)
