Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Develop and perform 3D CFD thermal and 3D CAE mechanical analysis for cells, modules, and packs to evaluate early concepts and validate production designs.
  • Create a cell thermal runaway heat rate model and integrate it with a 3D CFD thermal model, then conduct battery thermal analysis under thermal abuse conditions.
  • Develop a cell swelling model and integrate it with a 3D CAE mechanical model, then perform battery mechanical analysis of swelling, vibration, shock, and crush.
  • Collaborate with the broader engineering team (cell development, pack mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing) to design cells, modules, and packs.
  • Stay current with new battery technology and competitive products through academic literature reviews and conference attendance.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of industrial experience in battery thermal and mechanical modeling and design.
  • Proficiency with CFD software such as Star-CCM+ and Ansys Fluent.
  • Proficiency with CAE software such as HyperMesh and SolidWorks.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
