Job Title: Same Day Surgery Coding Specialist

Department: Medical Coding and Revenue Cycle Management

About the Role

This role involves accurate coding of surgical procedures performed on the same day as patient admission. Ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations is essential, along with maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coding Accuracy: Review medical records, operative reports, and documentation to ensure accurate procedure and diagnosis coding.
  • Code Assignment: Assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for same day surgeries according to coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation when necessary to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Staying Updated: Stay updated on changes in coding standards, regulations, and best practices to maintain compliance and enhance coding accuracy.
  • Education and Support: Provide education and support to clinical staff regarding proper documentation practices and coding requirements.
  • Reporting: Assist in preparing reports related to coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification: Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or similar credential is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same day surgery coding preferred.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in coding software and electronic health record systems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
