Physics Research Collaborator Opportunity

We are seeking skilled researchers with expertise in Physics to contribute to our cutting-edge research initiative focused on fine-tuning and evaluating large language models (LLMs). As a collaborator, you will play a crucial role in enhancing LLMs' ability to comprehend and solve complex physics problems, spanning areas like mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum theory.

To accomplish this goal, you may be asked to work on tasks such as:

  • Determine the maximum radial distance an electron reaches from the axis of a long, current-carrying cylindrical conductor due to the magnetic field generated by the current.
  • Calculate the probability that a high-energy pion decays within a certain distance from its origin given its rest mass and proper lifetime, assuming it travels through a material at a constant energy loss rate.
  • These tasks aim to identify model weaknesses and improve training and evaluation workflows.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, allowing them to solve advanced physics problems with clear and structured reasoning. They should also demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics concisely and provide precise feedback. Additionally, we seek candidates with research independence, enabling them to work effectively in a remote research environment while actively participating in team discussions. A reliable computer and internet setup are required for participation in remote assignments.

Note that this opportunity is reserved for individuals who have completed or are pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with our team to refine and evaluate LLMs for solving complex physics problems.
  • Analyze and address potential weaknesses in LLM performance.
  • Contribute to the development of improved training and evaluation strategies.

This position offers the chance to work on challenging projects, share knowledge with peers, and advance your research skills. We are looking for dedicated individuals who can commit to at least 4 hours per day and a minimum of 20 hours per week, with a time overlap of 4 hours with PST.
