Job Opportunity: Medical Coding Specialist

We are seeking an experienced medical coding specialist to join our team. As a Senior Medical Coder, you will play a critical role in converting complex medical diagnoses and procedures into designated alphanumeric codes.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure accurate daily coding volumes for the team within specified turnaround times. You will work closely with team leads to verify input volumes and code reports according to client guidelines and coding conventions.

A key aspect of this position is regular interaction with team leads to receive feedback and maintain understanding of workflow, procedures, and specific criteria for assigned clients.

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, listening, and organizational skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively.

The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to interpret medical records of patients in various specialties, work with speed and accuracy, and possess good analytic skills and expertise to accurately code medical records using ICD-9-CM and CPT conventions, particularly in emergency room coding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coding Accuracy: Accurately transform medical diagnoses and procedures into designated alphanumeric codes.
  • Turnaround Time: Ensure accurate daily coding volumes for the team within specified turnaround times.
  • Client Guidelines: Verify input volumes allotted by team leads and code reports according to client guidelines and coding conventions.
  • Feedback and Understanding: Regularly interact with team leads to receive feedback and maintain understanding of workflow, procedures, and specific criteria for assigned clients.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain above 95% accuracy consistently and meet monthly targets.
  • Communication: Attend weekly QA/team meetings without fail and engage in two-way communication with quality analysts/team leads.
  • Confidentiality: Understand and abide by the organization's information security policy to protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all information assets.

Requirements:

  • Education: Life science or paramedical graduates and postgraduates.
  • Experience: Minimum experience of 2-4 years.
  • Certification: Certification on CPC, CIC, COC, or CCS.
  • Skills:
    • Medical Record Interpretation: Strong ability to interpret medical records of patients in various specialties.
    • Communication: Ability to communicate, have excellent interpersonal, listening skills, and organizational skills.
    • Analytic Skills: Ability to work with speed and accuracy.
    • Coding Expertise: Good analytic skills and expertise to accurately code medical records using ICD-9-CM and CPT conventions, particularly in emergency room coding.
