Medical Scribe Specialist

Establishing a strong medical records foundation requires meticulous attention to detail and an organized approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review physician dictation, transcribing it into clinical notes within electronic medical record/billing systems.
  • Prepare and compile medical documentation/records for physicians, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Maintain adherence to hospital and medical facility policies regarding compliance and data protection.
  • Update patient history, physical exams, and pertinent health information in the patient's electronic record.
  • Compile and dispatch all documentation to physicians for review and approval, following authentication protocols.
  • Monitor duration of basic lab results and screening procedures, maintaining accurate records.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in healthcare regulations and policies, applying this knowledge to maintain accurate records.
  • Perform additional clerical duties as assigned to enhance provider productivity and clinic workflow.
  • Assign diagnoses and procedures codes using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), verifying their accuracy and sequence.
  • Collaborate with other clinical staff regarding documentation and coding practices.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Scribe or related role.
  • Proven administrative writing and reporting skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and analytical abilities.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and experience with electronic medical record software.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Typing skills with accuracy and speed.
  • Medical coding certification or completion of a certification program is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a pre-health field is also preferred.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential.
  • Familiarity with ICD-X codes and CPT Procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in medical coding or billing.
  • Experience working with EHR systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments.
