HPC System Administration Role

This role involves overseeing the day-to-day management of high-performance computing clusters and virtual desktop infrastructure. Ensuring seamless operations, minimizing downtime, and maintaining optimal system performance are primary goals.

  • Cluster Administration: Administer HPC and VDI clusters to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • User Account Management: Manage user accounts for HPC onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • AMI Image Creation and Maintenance: Create and maintain AMI Images in AMI accounts to support cluster operations.
  • Linux Operating System Management: Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems on HPC clusters.
  • Component Support and Services: Coordinate with providers to support necessary components and native services of the platform.
  • AWS Managed Active Directory Support: Provide support and management for AWS Managed Active Directory.
  • Platform Upgrades: Continuously upgrade the HPC platform and related components, including OS, Java, Python, EFPortal, etc.
  • Compliance Controls: Implement and maintain necessary compliance controls, conduct regular audits, and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Job Scheduler Management: Manage job schedulers such as Slurm or LSF.
  • Node Provisioning Tools: Utilize node provisioning tools like Werewolf.
  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support: Troubleshoot system issues and provide technical support to users.
  • System Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance to ensure optimal operation of the HPC environment.
  • Technology Integration: Collaborate with other IT professionals to integrate new technologies into the existing infrastructure.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Progressive experience in HPC system administration, preferably in a Redhat/CentOS Linux environment.
  • Experience with AWS Cloud formation templates to build infrastructure for HPC and storage Amazon FSx for Netapp and Lustre.
