Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Firmware Engineer to join our team at ABM Respiratory Care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in firmware development, with experience in medical device development and a deep understanding of respiratory systems.

About the Role

This is a key position that requires the ability to design and develop integrated software systems & firmware for medical devices. The successful candidate will take proof-of-concept clinical algorithms and develop them into a production-worthy engine that can be deployed in end medical products.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop integrated software systems & firmware for medical devices.
  • Take proof-of-concept clinical algorithms and develop them into a production-worthy engine that can be deployed in end medical products.
  • Test/Validate and document as part of the development process.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to specify, bring up, and troubleshoot new PCBAs.
  • Work closely with system engineers, software engineers, and user experience designers to develop highly efficient and scalable algorithms that are fully compliant with appropriate medical standards.
  • Take responsibility for projects on levels of increasing complexity.
  • Create and maintain architecture, requirements, design documentation, and code.
  • Understand respiratory systems and provide sound solutions that are well researched end-to-end.
  • Capable of leading the resolution of critical bugs or incidents.
  • Identify and address gaps in observability and monitoring of systems and independently manage escalations.
  • Ensure communication of decisions to the right people and format.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Engineering or related field with 4 years of experience in firmware development.
  • Prior experience in medical device development is an added advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with ARM Cortex Microcontrollers (STM32 is an added advantage).
  • Previous experience in firmware development, bootloader, Free RTOS.
  • In-depth understanding of Free RTOS or any other RTOS.
  • Strong demonstrable coding skills in C/C++ in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with peripherals SPI, I2C, ADC, UART, DMA, and PWM.
  • Experience using tools supporting development (analyzers, debuggers).
  • Strong testing and debugging skills.
  • Experience documenting design/development activities.
  • Understanding of medical devices and human respiratory system.
  • Experience in risk management and ISO 14971 is an added advantage.
