Poultry Health Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated veterinary doctor with specialized experience in poultry.

This role involves conducting routine health assessments of poultry flocks, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries in poultry, developing and implementing disease prevention programs, administering vaccines and medications as needed, and conducting necropsies to determine causes of death.

• Poultry Health Care:
  • Assess the overall health status of poultry flocks.
  • Treat illnesses and injuries in poultry using appropriate medication and procedures.
  • Develop and implement effective disease prevention strategies.
  • Administer vaccinations and medications as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Conduct necropsies to determine the cause of death.
• Disease Management:
  • Implement biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Provide guidance on proper nutrition and feeding practices for poultry.
  • Collaborate with farm managers and workers on best practices for animal care.
  • Keep accurate records of health assessments and treatments.
• Poultry Production Support:
  • Advise farmers on proper housing and environmental management for poultry.
  • Oversee the implementation of biosecurity measures.
  • Assist in improving poultry genetics for better productivity.
  • Educate poultry farm owners on proper care and management practices.
• Emergency Care:
  • Provide emergency care to sick or injured poultry.
  • Conduct home visits occasionally in case of emergency.

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
• Previous experience working with poultry in a clinical or field setting.
• Strong understanding of poultry diseases and treatment protocols.
• Experience with biosecurity measures and disease prevention strategies.

• Excellent communication skills to explain medical terms and conditions using simple language.
• Patience and a love for animals.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in medical equipment e.g. X-ray machines and anesthesia procedures.
