Job Description

As a seasoned Middleware Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing RabbitMQ and Kafka clusters across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Configuring brokers, exchanges, queues, topics, partitions, replication, and retention policies to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitoring platform health using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka Manager, and RabbitMQ Management UI, and setting up proactive alerting to minimize downtime.
  • Investigating and troubleshooting issues such as latency, stale messages, and data loss, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Implementing access control, authentication (e.g., SASL, Kerberos), encryption (SSL/TLS), and RBAC/ACL policies to ensure secure data exchange.
  • Enforcing data governance and regulatory compliance by designing and implementing backup, restore, and failover strategies to achieve high availability across datacenters or cloud zones.
  • Collaborating with development, DevOps, and data engineering teams to align middleware integration with business requirements, and providing guidance, documentation, and knowledge transfer for messaging best practices.
  • Maintaining clear records of architecture, configuration standards, incident logs, and operational procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Overall 7+ years of experience in administering Kafka (Apache, Confluent, MSK) and RabbitMQ in production environments.
  • Proven track record in monitoring, optimization, and incident resolution, with a deep understanding of RabbitMQ and Kafka ecosystems.
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools and middleware performance metrics, strong collaboration, communication, and documentation abilities, and experience supporting cross-functional teams and mentoring juniors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science Engineering or technical degree.
