Data Center Operations Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage fiber optic (single-mode/multimode) and UTP cable laying, termination, patching, and commissioning to ensure data center infrastructure operates at peak performance.
  • Develop in-depth understanding of cable color codes, data speed capacities, and various network zones such as Production, DMZ, UAT, and PCI DSS to maintain compliance.
  • Operate fiber and UTP testers for cable validation and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for cabling work and collaborate with teams to support active equipment such as switches, servers, intelligent PDUs (iPDUs), MUX, STS, and Out-of-Band (OOB) switches.
  • Identify, patch, and manage SAN, LAN, and UTP ports, maintaining up-to-date patching schedules to optimize data flow.
  • Maintain operational standards and best practices while working in critical data center environments.
  • Coordinate with data center managers and requestors for approvals, documentation, and effective communication related to data center infrastructure.

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with fiber and copper cabling infrastructure in data centers.
  • Proficiency in cable laying, termination, testing, and patching processes.
  • Strong understanding of data center network zones and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with fiber/UTP testers and cable splicing techniques.
  • Familiarity with data center active equipment (switches, servers, iPDUs, etc.).
  • Good documentation and communication skills for coordination.
