Senior Data Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in cloud development to lead the development of new data products and modernize existing platforms.

This critical role requires hands-on experience designing, building, and optimizing large-scale data pipelines and architectures in both on-premises and cloud environments.

The ideal candidate will serve as a Cloud Development expert, mentoring and guiding other data engineers as they enhance their cloud skillsets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Engineering & Architecture:
    • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products.
    • Develop and optimize ELT/ETL processes using various tools and technologies.
    • Support and evolve data models that drive operational and analytical workloads.
    • Modernize legacy systems and migrate workloads to cloud-native platforms.
  • Cloud Development & DevOps (AWS-Focused):
    • Build, deploy, and manage cloud-native data solutions using AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR, Redshift, Athena, and Step Functions.
    • Implement CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.
    • Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, cost, and security.
    • Ensure scalability, resilience, and compliance of cloud-based data platforms.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with product managers, analysts, and engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
    • Contribute to the data platform modernization roadmap and support new product delivery.

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or equivalent technical role.
  • 5+ years of hands-on cloud development and DevOps experience.
  • Strong expertise in SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Deep experience with Oracle (PL/SQL, performance tuning, data extraction).
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure (networking, security, cost optimization).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Snowflake.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with modern orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt).
  • Exposure to data cataloging, governance, and quality tools.
